Playground safety mats that soften falls without replacing the grass. Our rubber grass mats are tested to BS EN 1177, the impact-attenuation standard for playground surfacing, and lay straight onto the lawn under swings, slides, climbing frames and trim trails. The grass grows up through the holes, the ground stops wearing to mud and children land on a cushioned, non-slip surface. For yards and patios we also stock interlocking rubber playground tiles with ramped edge strips.
Ramped edge strips – yellow or black clip-on edging that removes the trip step around tiled areas.
16mm or 23mm under play equipment?
Both thicknesses are tested to BS EN 1177. 16mm suits low equipment such as toddler swings, small slides and playhouses. 23mm gives more cushioning for higher platforms, climbing frames and adult swings, and takes mowers and maintenance vehicles without damage. Lay the mats to cover the full impact area around each piece of equipment – tell us the equipment and its fall height and we will advise how far the matting should extend.
Why schools, nurseries and councils choose grass mats
No excavation, no wetpour contractor and no closing the playground for a week: the site team can lay the mats in an afternoon. They drain through the holes so there are no puddles, the grass keeps growing so the area stays green, and a worn or damaged mat is swapped individually rather than resurfacing the whole area. Every mat is 100% recycled rubber. Trade pricing for schools, academies, councils, parish councils and play contractors – call 01282 270214 or email sales@grassmatsco.co.uk.
