Protect the routes across your garden that get used the most: to the shed, the washing line, the bins or the back gate. Lay rubber grass mats straight onto the lawn and you get a firm, mud-free path that still looks like grass once it grows through – no digging, no slabs, no gravel and no more muddy boots at the back door.
Which product do I need?
Rubber grass mats 1m x 1.5m: 16mm is our standard mat for lawns, garden paths and foot traffic, including wheelbarrows and buggies; choose 23mm where the ride-on mower, the car or the horses cross.
Interlocking rubber grass mats: 910mm square mats that lock together without cable ties for neat, narrow paths and patio edges.
Rubber grass mat roll: 1m x 10.5m of continuous 23mm matting for long paths with fewer joins.
Mud happens where the same route is walked every day and the grass cannot recover. Mats take the weight off the soil so the roots stay intact, and the open holes keep the path drained. Lay them in the growing season if you can – the grass will be through within weeks – but they can go down in winter too and will stop the mud straight away. Trim with a sharp knife to fit around the washing-line post, the shed base and the bins.
How to lay them
Mow the grass short and clear any stones.
Lay the mats, peg each one into the ground and cable-tie neighbouring mats together (interlocking mats simply click).
Water during dry spells while the grass grows through, then mow over the mats with the blades set a little higher.
Quick answers

Are they suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs? Yes – the textured, level surface suits wheelchairs, pushchairs and walking frames, and the mats are tested to BS EN 1177 so they double as a safe surface under swings and trampolines.
