Grass reinforcement mesh is a flexible green plastic mesh that you roll out over an existing lawn and peg down. The grass grows up through the open cells and knits the mesh into the root zone, so within a few weeks you have a reinforced green surface that takes cars, vans, caravans, hooves and heavy footfall without rutting or turning to mud. Each roll is 2m x 25m (50m²) and comes with 200 fixing pegs.
Heavy duty grass protection mesh – for lawns, dog runs, paddocks, event fields and footpaths where the job is stopping wear and mud.
Both rolls share the same heavy duty specification: 2m x 25m, 33mm open cells, rated for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes once the grass has established, and tested to BS EN 1177 for use in play areas.
Mesh or rubber grass mats?
Mesh is the economical way to reinforce large areas of healthy grass – a 50m² roll covers a two-car driveway or a run of event parking. It sits almost invisibly in the lawn and the grass does the work, so it needs a growing season to reach full strength. Rubber grass mats give instant, cushioned protection from the day they are laid and are the better choice for gateways, play equipment, wheelchair routes and ground that is already bare or muddy. Many sites use both: mats at the pinch points, mesh across the open ground.
How to lay grass reinforcement mesh
Mow the grass short, unroll the mesh and let it relax flat for an hour in the sun. Peg every 500mm along the edges and joins and about every 1m across the middle, overlapping adjoining rolls by one cell. Keep vehicles off until the grass has grown through – usually three to six weeks in the growing season – then mow as normal with the blades set above the mesh. Full laying instructions are on each product page, and our team can talk you through tricky sites such as slopes and gateways.
