Worn routes between greens and tees, around clubhouses and alongside pitches take a battering from feet, trolleys and buggies. Rubber grass mats, mat rolls and turf reinforcement mesh protect those routes – tee walk-offs, bridge approaches, gates, the path to the halfway hut, spectator lines – while keeping a natural, green look as the grass grows through.
Which product do I need?
Rubber grass mat rolls: 1m x 10.5m continuous 23mm runs for walkways and buggy routes with fewer joins.
23mm rubber grass mats: modular 1m x 1.5m mats for widening worn areas, tee approaches, gates, steps and spectator routes.
Turf reinforcement mesh: for buggy routes across open ground and overflow parking on match and competition days.
Why greenkeepers use rubber grass mats
They lay without excavation, so a path can go down between competitions and come up again if the route changes. The holes drain so there is no standing water, the textured surface gives grip for spikes, trolley wheels and buggy tyres, and mowers run straight over once the grass is through. Mats are also used under temporary spectator seating, at pitch-side access gates, on cricket roller routes and around bowling green surrounds.
Laying tips
Lay in the growing season so the grass knits the mats in before winter.
Peg every mat and tie neighbouring mats together; use the roll for long straight runs.
Once the grass has grown through, mow as normal with the blades set a little higher.
