Product overview

Keep lawns, pitches and event sites rut-free: lay it, use it, lift it

TurfGuard Pro™ lightweight ground protection boards give you an instant, non-slip route over grass and soft ground. Lay them by hand in minutes, then walk, wheel or drive light vehicles across them. When the job's done, lift them away and the ground is just as you found it. No ruts, no mud, no re-turfing.

Why buyers choose TurfGuard Pro

  • ✓Stops ruts, mud and compaction. Each board spreads the weight of feet, wheels and light machinery over 2.64 m², so the grass underneath recovers instead of churning up.
  • ✓Two people, no machinery. At about 24 kg, each board is an easy two-person lift using the moulded handholds. You don't need a machine or any tools.
  • ✓Grip in the wet. A raised diamond tread on top gives sure footing and tyre grip in the rain. The smooth underside sits flat on lawns and indoor floors.
  • ✓Flexes with the ground. Tough, flexible polyethylene follows dips and bumps without cracking.
  • ✓Outlasts plywood. Won't rot, split, splinter or soak up water. Hose them down, stack them and use them again on the next job.
  • ✓Recyclable. Made from 100% recyclable polyethylene.

What can go on them?

✓ Ideal for
Foot traffic and crowds · wheelbarrows, sack trucks and equipment trolleys · pushchairs and wheelchairs · ride-on mowers and garden machinery · golf buggies and ATVs
✓ Suitable on firm, level ground
Cars, small vans and compact tractors. Lay the boards two wide and drive slowly.
✗ Choose a heavier mat for
HGVs, loaded tractors and trailers, dumpers, excavators and other tracked plant, or any vehicle crossing soft, waterlogged ground. Step up to TurfShield Plus (15 tonne) or LoadMaster Pro (60 tonne).

How many boards do I need?

Use the calculator at the top of this page, or go by these common jobs. The figures count whole boards laid in a grid, so both the length and the width are fully covered.

Your job Boards
10m garden path (1.1m wide) 5
25m access route (1.1m wide) 11
50m event walkway (1.1m wide) 21
24m car or van track (two boards wide, 2.2m) 20
3m × 6m gazebo or work area 9
6m × 12m marquee floor 30

Tip: for paths, lay the boards end to end. For vehicles, lay two side by side so both sets of wheels stay on the boards.

Don't forget connectors. On vehicle routes, join your boards with our 2-way and 4-way connectors (bolts and washers included) so they can't creep apart. Use 4-way connectors where four corners meet and 2-way connectors along the edges.

Pro tips for the best results

  • Clear away sharp stones and debris, and lay the boards on reasonably level ground.
  • Butt the boards tightly together. On vehicle routes, secure the corners with ground pins or our 2-way and 4-way connectors so the boards don't creep.
  • Drive slowly, and avoid sharp turns or wheelspin on the boards.
  • On longer jobs in warm weather, lift or move the boards every few days so light and air reach the grass.
  • After the job, hose the boards down and store them flat.

Common questions

Will the boards damage or mark my lawn?

No. They spread the load to prevent ruts and compaction. On short jobs the grass recovers quickly. On longer jobs in warm weather, lift or move the boards every few days so the turf doesn't yellow.

Can I drive a car or van on them?

Yes, on firm, level ground and within the 5-tonne working load. Lay the boards two wide and drive slowly. For soft or waterlogged ground, or regular vehicle traffic, choose TurfShield Plus.

Are they slippery when wet?

The raised diamond tread is designed to grip in wet weather, both underfoot and under tyres.

Can I use them indoors?

Yes. The smooth underside makes them suitable as temporary flooring for sports halls and venues, and for floor protection during renovation work.
