Dogs wear the same tracks into a lawn every day: along the fence, by the gate, outside the back door and round the patio. Rubber grass mats and grass protection mesh give those routes a firm, drained surface that the grass still grows through, so the strips stop turning to mud, paws stay cleaner and nothing tracks into the house.
Which product do I need?
Rubber grass mats 1m x 1.5m: 16mm suits most dog runs and garden paths. Choose 23mm for big dogs, areas that are already muddy, or where wheelbarrows, mowers or vehicles also cross.
Interlocking rubber grass mats: 0.91m square tiles that click together with no cable ties – ideal for small or awkward spaces, kennel runs and fence lines.
Turf reinforcement mesh: lies flat across larger lawns and dog exercise areas so the whole lawn survives the zoomies.
Is rubber grass matting safe for dogs?
Yes. The mats are solid recycled rubber with no loose fill, the textured top gives paws grip in the wet, and the open holes let rain and urine drain straight through rather than pooling. Claws cannot get through the mat, so it also stops digging along fence lines and under gates. Hose the mats down as you would a patio.
Laying tips
Lay the mats along the route your dog already uses, rather than trying to change it.
Reseed any bare patches before laying, so the grass has something to grow from.
Peg every mat firmly so corners cannot be lifted or chewed.
Trim with a sharp knife to fit around posts, gates and kennel bases.
Quick answers
Can I mow over them? Yes. Once the grass has grown through, mow as normal with the blades set a little higher.
Will the grass still grow? Yes – the holes are 25mm, so the lawn comes through within a few weeks in the growing season and the mat all but disappears.
