Product overview

Rubber grass mats built to handle the toughest conditions — 100% recycled rubber, available in 16mm and 23mm thickness, cut to 1.0m x 1.5m. Protect your lawn, driveway, pathway or garden from vehicle traffic, foot traffic and erosion — no groundwork required.

Why Choose Our Rubber Grass Mats?

  • Heavy-duty protection: Withstands car, van and light vehicle traffic without crushing or displacing. Ideal for grass driveways, overflow parking, pathways and high-footfall garden areas.
  • 100% recycled rubber: Manufactured from post-consumer recycled rubber — no virgin materials used. Durable, sustainable and built to last outdoors in all UK weather conditions.
  • Grass grows through: Open-hole design (25mm holes) allows grass to grow upward and remain healthy, blending seamlessly into the lawn for a natural look.
  • Simple installation — no groundwork: Lay directly onto existing grass or prepared ground. Secure using optional anchor pegs and ties. Covers an area of 1.5m² per mat — connect multiple mats for larger coverage.
  • Protects soil from erosion: Stabilises the ground surface on slopes, banks and high-traffic areas. Prevents ruts, mud and compaction.
  • Wheelchair and mobility friendly: Firm, stable surface suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility aids — ideal around accessible gardens, care homes and public spaces.
  • Non-slip, all-weather surface: Textured rubber provides grip underfoot and under wheel in wet, icy and muddy conditions.
  • Two thickness options: 16mm — ideal for pedestrian pathways, garden borders and light use. 23mm — recommended for vehicle access, driveways and heavy-duty applications.

16mm or 23mm? Here's the straight answer.

How to lay rubber grass mats

No digging, no sub-base and no specialist tools. Most jobs are done in an afternoon.

  1. Step 1

    Measure & order

Measure the length and width of your area and let the calculator above work out how many mats you need. Add pegs and ties to fix them down.

  2. Step 2

    Lay, peg & tie

Mow the grass short, lay the mats straight onto it, peg each mat into the ground and cable-tie neighbouring mats together.

  3. Over the next few weeks

    Grass grows through

The grass grows up through the holes and knits the mats into the ground, protecting the roots from wear, mud and ruts.

How many do I need?

Use the calculator at the top of this page. Enter the length and width of your area in metres and it works out how many you need, rounding up so you're never short.

Should I choose 16mm or 23mm?

16mm suits lawns, garden paths and foot traffic. 23mm is our heavy-duty mat for driveways, car parks, playgrounds and horse gateways. If you're not sure, choose 23mm.

How long does it take for the grass to grow through?

In the growing season (spring to early autumn) grass usually starts to come through within a few weeks. It grows more slowly in winter. Water the area during dry spells.

Do I need pegs and ties?

We recommend them. Pegs anchor each mat to the ground and cable ties join neighbouring mats so they can't shift or lift. Choose the pegs & ties option above.

Can I mow over them?

Yes. Once the grass has grown through, mow as normal with the blades set a little higher than usual.

Can I drive and park on them?

Yes. Choose a heavy-duty mat (22mm or thicker) for driveways, overflow car parks and field access. The mats stop wheels rutting the ground and protect the grass roots.

Can I get advice before I order?

Yes. Call our team on 01282 270214 (Mon–Fri, 8:30am–5pm) or email sales@grassmatsco.co.uk and we'll help you choose the right product and quantity.

Is delivery free, and how fast is it?

Yes. UK delivery is free on every order, with no minimum spend. Orders are dispatched within 1 working day.

Can I return it?

Yes. You have 14 days to return or exchange your order. See our returns policy for details.
