Product overview
Stop mud, ruts and bald patches for good. This heavy duty turf reinforcement mesh turns soft grass into a firm surface you can drive and park on, and it still looks like a lawn. Unroll it, peg it down and let the grass grow up through the mesh to lock it in place. You don't need to dig, pour concrete or hire a skip.
Each 2m x 25m roll covers 50m² and comes with 200 anchor pegs, so you have everything you need to fit it in an afternoon.
At a glance
- Takes cars, vans, caravans and horse trailers: rated for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes
- 50m² per roll: 2m wide x 25m long, with 200 pegs included
- Stays green: grass grows through the open cells and hides the mesh in your lawn
- DIY fit in hours: no groundwork, machinery or concrete needed
- Tested to BS EN 1177: suitable for grassed play areas at schools, nurseries and parks
- Built for British weather: UV-stabilised recycled HDPE that won't rot, rust or crack
- Free UK delivery: dispatched within 1 working day
How it works
Wheels and boots crush grass and compact the soil underneath, and in wet weather that turns into ruts and mud within days. The mesh spreads each load over a wider area and protects the base of the grass from direct wear. As the roots grow through the cells, the turf and mesh knit together into one reinforced surface. It drains like a lawn because it is a lawn.
Why buyers choose this mesh
- Heavy duty, not garden-centre grade. The rigid HDPE construction is made for daily vehicle use on driveways, overflow car parks and caravan standings, not just foot traffic.
- A green driveway, not a grey one. You get the strength of hardstanding with the look of a natural lawn, so you can add parking without paving over your garden.
- Permeable by design. Rain soaks straight into the ground instead of running off. This stops puddling and supports sustainable drainage (SuDS).
- Fit it once and forget it. The mesh is UV-stabilised, weatherproof and designed for 10+ years outdoors, with nothing to rot, rust or re-lay.
- Permanent or temporary. Leave it down for good, or lift it and reuse it for events, seasonal parking or site access.
- Mow straight over it. Once the grass is established, mow as normal with the blades set slightly higher.
- Better for the planet. It's made from recycled HDPE and is fully recyclable at the end of its life.

How many rolls do I need?
Multiply the length by the width in metres, divide by 50 and round up. If you're cutting around curves, trees or kerbs, add about 5–10%. You can also use the calculator at the top of this page.
| Area | Typical size | Rolls |
| Single driveway | 3m x 8m (24m²) | 1 |
| Double driveway | 6m x 8m (48m²) | 1 |
| Field gateway | 4m x 6m (24m²) | 1 |
| 10-space overflow car park | 12m x 15.6m (approx. 187m²) | 4 |
Fitting guide
- Prepare. Mow the grass short and clear any stones or debris. Fill ruts or hollows with topsoil so the mesh sits flat.
- Relax the roll. Unroll the mesh over the area and leave it flat for a few hours, in the sun if possible, so it loses its coil and lies flush. Lay rolls edge to edge without overlapping them.
- Peg it down. Push or tap a peg through the mesh about every 500mm along the edges and joins, and about every 1m across the middle. With 200 pegs per roll, you'll have spares for corners and joins.
- Let the grass grow through. You can walk on it straight away. In the growing season, keep cars off for 2–4 weeks (longer in winter) while the grass knits through. After that, drive and park as normal.
Pro tips: Cut the mesh around trees and kerbs with a sharp knife or tin snips. Water during dry spells to help the grass establish faster. If the grass is thin or patchy, top-dress with soil and overseed with a hard-wearing ryegrass mix after pegging. Raise the mower blades for the first few cuts.
Frequently asked questions
Can I drive on it straight away?
You can walk on it straight away. For cars, wait 2–4 weeks in the growing season so the roots can lock the mesh in place. Driving on soft ground too early can shift the mesh or push it into ruts.
Can I lay it in autumn or winter?
Yes. It protects the grass from foot traffic as soon as it's down, which helps stop wet-weather mud before it starts. Grass grows slowly in cold weather, so keep vehicle use light until the grass has grown through in spring. Lay the roll out somewhere warm for a while first so it flattens more easily.
Do I need planning permission for a grass driveway?
In England, you don't need planning permission for a permeable surface in a front garden, and reinforced grass is fully permeable. A new dropped kerb still needs approval from your council. Elsewhere in the UK, or if your home is a listed building, check with your local council.
Can I lay it on bare soil or mud?
Yes, but the grass has to establish before vehicles use it. Level the soil, sow a hard-wearing grass seed, peg the mesh over the top and keep vehicles off until the grass has grown through. That usually takes 6–8 weeks in the growing season.
Will I be able to see the mesh?
Hardly at all. The green mesh sits at soil level, and once the grass grows through it blends into the lawn.
Can I cut it and join rolls together?
Yes. It cuts easily with a sharp knife or tin snips. To cover wider areas, butt rolls up edge to edge and peg along the join. Don't overlap them.
Can I lift it and reuse it?
Yes. For events and temporary parking, lift it before the grass fully roots through and it can be laid again elsewhere. If you leave it down, the grass locks it in place permanently.
Mesh or rubber grass mats: which do I need?
Mesh is the best choice for large areas, vehicle parking and a natural lawn look, because it rolls out fast over big spaces. Rubber grass mats are heavier and cushioned. They suit high-footfall walkways, smaller areas and spots under play equipment. Not sure? Call us on 01282 270214 and we'll recommend the right one.
